Bio
Brian Lutter has been a Varsity Assistant Football Coach at Johnston High School since 2005. He spent his first 19 seasons coaching the offensive line before transitioning to the defensive line in 2023. During his tenure, the Dragons have qualified for the state playoffs 17 times, reaching the quarterfinals six times and making the school's first-ever state semifinal appearance in 2022. He was recognized as the 2025 Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) 5A Assistant Coach of the Year.
In addition to football, Coach Lutter serves as the Director of Strength & Conditioning for Johnston High School. In this role, he designs the strength, speed, and agility programming for the athletics department and teaches strength training classes. In 2019, he was named the Iowa High School Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the National High School Strength Coaches Association. His past coaching experience also includes stints with the varsity wrestling and varsity girls track programs.

A native of West Des Moines, Coach Lutter and his wife, Amy, live in Johnston with their two daughters, Nora and Stella.
